Take Action
Four ways you can help stop parking charges in our market towns
⏰ Consultation deadline: 3 February 2026 – Act now!
1. Sign the Petition
Sarah Bool MP has launched a petition opposing the parking charges. Over 8,500 people have already signed.
Adding your name takes just 30 seconds and shows the council the strength of opposition.
2. Respond to the Consultation
The council is legally required to consider consultation responses. Your voice matters.
Complete the official budget consultation survey and make your opposition to parking charges clear.
Key points to make:
- Parking charges will damage footfall and hurt local businesses
- Evidence from other towns (York, Dudley) shows the harm charges cause
- Free parking competitors (Rushden Lakes, Bicester) will take our customers
- Revenue-raising through parking charges may be unlawful
- The proposal contradicts WNC’s own Economic Growth Strategy

3. Contact Your Councillor
Your local councillors will vote on this budget at Full Council in February. Tell them to vote against parking charges.
Template letter:
I am writing to urge you to vote against the proposed parking charges for Brackley, Daventry, and Towcester in the upcoming budget vote.
Evidence from towns like York and Dudley shows that parking charges devastate high street footfall and damage local businesses. With free parking available at Rushden Lakes and Bicester Village, our customers will simply go elsewhere.
The council’s own Economic Growth Strategy prioritises vibrant town centres – parking charges directly contradict this.
Please stand up for our market towns and vote against this damaging proposal.
Yours sincerely,

4. Spread the Word
Share this campaign with friends, family, and neighbours. The more people who respond to the consultation, the harder it is for the council to ignore us.
Share this message:
Evidence shows parking charges kill market towns. York lost £8 MILLION in spending after raising charges.
